MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes scaling above magnitude 5.0 hit the waters off Davao Oriental on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
A magnitude 5.3 quake was recorded at 4:17 a.m., with the epicenter located 168 kilometers southeast of Tarragona in Davao Oriental.
The earthquake, which was of tectonic origin, had a depth of 15 kilometers.
Minutes after at 4:28 a.m., another earthquake—this time at magnitude 5.1—hit the waters off the province anew.
The second earthquake’s epicenter was located 119 kilometers southeast of Tarragona, Davao Oriental and had a depth of 13 kilometers.
Phivolcs said no damage and aftershocks are expected following the two earthquakes.
