Local charges filed vs nabbed US diplomat

Criminal charges have already been filed against the 61-year-old American diplomat for allegedly engaging in sex with a Filipino minor and possessing child pornography while stationed in the Philippines, according to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.

Guevarra said the Pasay City prosecutor already filed charges against Dean Edward Cheves, who served at the US Embassy in Manila from September 2020 to February 2021.

He was indicted by a US federal grand jury on Aug. 3 but Guevarra said he could still be extradited and held liable under Philippine law. —TINA G. SANTOS
