MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — The active COVID-19cases in this province were nearing the 3,000 mark despite intensified health protocols, data from the provincial government showed.
In its latest bulletin, the Pampanga government said its active cases rose to 2,872 as of Aug. 10.
The number increased by 662 in only nine days from 2,210 active cases on Aug. 2.
These exclude active cases in Angeles City, an independent highly urbanized locality, which has 668 active cases as of Aug. 11.
Pampanga’s capital City of San Fernando has the most number of active cases at 739 as of Aug. 11, followed by Mabalacat City with 418 active cases as of Aug. 10, and Guagua town with 286 active cases as of Aug. 10.
The province recorded a total of 26,350 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 22,153 have recovered, while 1,325 have died.
Gov. Dennis Pineda issued an executive order on July 30 imposing stricter border controls, a curfew period from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., a liquor ban, and prohibiting contact sports. The order is effective from Aug. 2 to Aug. 15.
Non-Pampanga residents may enter the province only after presenting current negative COVID-19 test results at the border control checkpoints.
The provincial government has been strictly imposing minimum health standards. It said some 9,346 individuals had been apprehended for not wearing face masks, loitering in public places, and violation of curfew and liquor ban since May 15.
