Fire caused by gas explosion hits Taguig's BGC

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Taguig City on Thursday assured that there is no cause for alarm over a fire and explosion that rocked a construction site a  Bonifacio Global City (BGC) Wednesday night.

“The Taguig City Government assures the public that there is no cause for alarm following a fire that gutted a construction site on 21st Drive in BGC, Taguig City, past 6 p.m. on Wednesday,” the local government said in a statement.

A construction worker accidentally hit a gas pipe that triggered the incident, based on initial reports.

A project safety officer was injured, rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center for treatment, and was last listed in stable condition.

The city government recalled that evacuation was conducted in neighboring establishments.

It added that operations in the construction site is suspended.

“Construction in the site will remain suspended pending investigation and safety assessment,” the local government said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said estimated damage to property is around P200,000.
