Sunny weekend but Feb. rainfall is 3 times more than usual

AFTER nearly a week of rain, Cebu will have a sunny weekend.

Weather bureau chief Oscar Tabada gave this forecast yesterday.

Tabada said that the low-pressure area in southern Mindanao that caused this week’s rains in the Visayas and Mindanao areas would dissipate today once it would reach land.

“We have seen in our monitor that there is the least possibility that the low pressure can form into a tropical cyclone,” Tabada said.

He, however, warned that rains would fall again next week until May as a result of the La Niña phenomenon.

He said that the rain count since February 1 until yesterday already recorded 200 milliliters, three times more than the rain volume for the same period over a ten-year scan.

For the past 10 years, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-Asa) recorded 70 milliliters for the whole month of February.

Yesterday Pag-Asa monitored heavy rains at Ormoc, some parts of Leyte, Bohol, Cebu province, especially at the southern part of Cebu, and Cebu City.

Moderate to heavy rain is also experienced in Negros Oriental, such as in Guihulngan, La Libertad and Tayasan./Correspondent Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
