More than 800k doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines arrive in PH

More than 800,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine procured by the government were delivered to the country on Wednesday night.

MANILA, Philippines — More than 800,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine procured by the government were delivered to the country on Wednesday night.

The 813,150 doses of Pfizer carried by an Air Hongkong flight arrived past 9 p.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires John C. Law welcomed the arrival of the vaccines.

Galvez said the fresh batch of Pfizer vaccines will be allocated in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and other urban hubs.

Earlier this Wednesday, the country also received 100,000 doses of Sinopharm donated by the United Arab Emirates.

With the arrival of the recent vaccine shipments, the Philippines already received over 39.5 million doses since February.

Meanwhile, 24.4 million vaccine doses have already been administered with 11.3 million persons already fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Aug. 8.
