LEGAZPI CITY — A man who was linked to the death of a 12-year-old girl was shot and killed by the police inside the headquarters in Nabua town in Camarines Sur on Wednesday.
Police Major Divino John Pelea, Nabua police chief, said while being interviewed at the station, Ricky Ebonite, resident of Barangay Santiago Old, allegedly tried to grab his service firearm tucked around his waist at around 1:18 a.m.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Alex Peñafiel immediately shot Ebonite. He was declared dead while being taken to a hospital, Pelea said.
“We noticed that his statements were confusing, until he tried to grab the gun,” Pelea added.
Pelea said Ebonite first surrendered at the Iriga City District Jail and was accompanied by the jail officers in the said police station.
On Monday, August 9, the decomposing body of Trixia Mae Samson, a resident of Barangay San Antonio Ogbon, was discovered at the grassy roadside in Barangay La Bustrac at around 9 a.m.
Pelea said according to the victim’s grandmother, Ebonite fetched the victim from their house last August 4. She was reported missing when she did not return home.
The police were still waiting for the autopsy result while the investigation is ongoing.
