MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday announced that cash aid would proceed as planned, even thanking President Rodrigo Duterte despite their recent verbal sparring.

“Maraming salamat kay Pangulong Duterte, sa DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) at sa DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) at sa Department of National Defense,” said Moreno.

“Tuloy po ang delivery ng ayuda bukas sa bawat pamilyang Manileño, tulad ng labing anim nating siyudad sa Metro Manila,” he added.

(The aid delivery will continue tomorrow to every Manileño family, like our sixteen cities in Metro Manila.)

Following his remarks, Moreno reminded his constituents to exercise discipline to get their ayuda or aid. He promised to do whatever he could to provide more assistance if this was not enough.

“Makikisuyo lang ha, mag-behave tayo. Kusang disiplina (let’s behave, practice discipline),” he said.

“Wag kayong mag-alala, kung ano man ang kakulangan gagawan natin ng paraan,” he continued.

(Don’t worry, we will find a way to address whatever the shortcomings we encounter.)

Moreno also assured the residents of Manila that the city would be able to weather the COVID-19 crisis.

“Magiging kaagapay niyo kami ni Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, hindi man kami perpekto pero wag kayong magalala, babangon tayo,” Moreno said.

(Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and I will be with you, we may not be perfect but don’t worry, we will get through this,)

In his taped briefing on Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte seemingly chided Moreno and the city of Manila for being “disorganized,” adding that Moreno would lose the authority to distribute aid to the city’s residents.
