CHR probes kidnap-slay of Muslim online seller in Nueva Ecija

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has conducted an independent investigation into the kidnap-slay of Nadia Casar, a Muslim online seller in Nueva Ecija.
“CHR strongly condemns this heinous act. Not only because this crime was an assault on a woman, who is regarded to be part of the vulnerable sectors, but also such blatant disregard for the law and human rights was said to have been carried out by five police officers and two civilian accomplices,” CHR spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia said in a statement on Tuesday.
CHR recalled that 35-year-old Casar’s remains were found burnt, stuffed in a sack, and buried in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija early this month.
A driver, who was together with Casar, was also kidnapped and robbed but was released.
As policemen were being tagged in the crime, de Guia reminded the police force to abide by their sworn duty.
“We continue to remind each and every police of their sworn duty “to serve and protect” the interest of the people. To be at the forefront of committing crimes is a betrayal of this mandate,” the spokesperson said.
De Guia likewise hoped that the case would be resolved, bringing justice to Casar’s death and harm inflicted on the driver.
