BACOLOD CITY – The Iloilo City government has provided the Commission on Elections with land for its Western Visayas Integrated Field Office.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon signed a deed of usufruct on Friday, August 6.

The building to be built by the Comelec will not only serve Iloilo but the entire Western Visayas.

“This is a realization of the Comelec’s strategic plan to construct its own main building and field offices to improve its morale, efficiency and independence,” Guanzon said.

The agreement allows the Comelec to use a 1,190-square meter lot owned by the Iloilo City government in Barangay Taal, Molo, for a building that will house the Office of the Regional Election Director, Office of the Iloilo Provincial Election Supervisor, and the Office of the Iloilo City Election Officer Treñas said.

“I am more than pleased to be of help to the Commission on Elections,” the mayor said.

“May the agreement we have just signed become a core motivation for us to maximize our potential to provide better services for the people and the community,” he added.

Guanzon thanked Treñas and the other Iloilo City officials for providing a permanent home for the Comelec regional, provincial and city offices.
