AFP using military trucks for free rides during ECQ

MANILA, Philipines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday (Aug. 9) said it has deployed more vehicles for its Libreng Sakay program in the National Capital Region during enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Capt. Prad Adoptante, Joint Task Force NCR public affairs chief, said five military trucks were sent to offer free rides on several routes, including the 14-km SM Taytay to Ortigas Center and vice versa.

“Said move enhances the operation of four buses from the RRCG Bus Inc which have already transported around 900 APOR (authorized persons outside residence) commuters to major routes,” he said.

The routes of the free rides are:

SM Fairview to Quezon Ave via Commonwealth (vice versa)
Gil Puyat LRT1 to Quezon Ave via Taft Ave and España (vice versa);
SM Masinag to Cubao MRT via Marcos Highway (vice versa).

At least 500 soldiers are also manning various quarantine control checkpoints and isolation facilities along with policemen.

The JTF-NCR was also engaged in reminding the public, through loudspeaker announcements, about the need to heed health protocols during the ECQ.
