MANILA, Philippines — Police personnel are ready to extend assistance during the distribution of financial aid in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar assured on Saturday.

“Handa ang PNP na tumulong sa pagbibigay ng ayuda sa panahon ng ECQ. Bahagi ito ng guidance ng ating SILG Secretary Eduardo Año noon pa sa ating kapulisan na alalayan ang pagbibigay ng cash assistance sa panahon ng hard lockdown,” Eleazar said in a statement.

(The PNP is ready to extend assistance during aid distribution in ECQ areas. It is part of the guidance of [Department of the Interior and Local Government] Secretary Eduardo Año before for the police to assist in the disbursement of cash aid during hard lockdowns.)

Eleazar directed concerned police offices to coordinate with local government leaders on the type of assistance needed for the cash aid disbursement.

Eleazar added that the police will enforce minimum health and safety protocols to ensure the public’s safety and to prevent super spreader events.

“Our main objective is to avoid cash aid distribution activities turning into super spreader events and we can do that by ensuring that a system is in place and there is an orderly process,” Eleazar stated.

The DILG said that cash aid distribution in ECQ areas may begin next week after the Department of Budget and Management released P10.8 billion for qualified individuals in Metro Manila.
