Aksyon Demokratiko, a party founded by the late Sen. Raul Roco, has expressed confidence that Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagaso will push through with his plan to join the party, especially after his camp announced on Thursday his resignation from the National Unity Party (NUP).

Domagoso was expected to take his oath as Aksyon Demokratiko’s newest member but had to beg off following the chaos at Manila’s vaccination sites a day before the National Capital Region (NCR) was scheduled to go into a two-week lockdown.

This, however, has “not weakened the resolve of either Domagoso or Aksyon Demokratiko to push through with the oath-taking, albeit at a later date,” said party secretary general Ernest Ramel Jr. in a statement.

In a statement issued by Domagoso’s camp, the mayor said “the chaos in some NCR vaccine centers, especially in Manila this morning, requires utmost collective attention.”

Askyon Demokratiko acknowledged the vaccination as a “pressing concern” and agreed to postpone the oath-taking that was supposed to be held at the Rizal Park Hotel.

“Mayor Isko’s effective and innovative implementation of the city’s vaccination program has driven thousands of people, both Manileños and non-Manileños, to flock to the city’s vaccination centers. Like Mayor Isko, Aksyon Demokratiko is committed to an honest and efficient government with only the welfare of the Filipino people in mind,” the party added.

Domagoso’s camp also issued to reporters a copy of his letter to NUP dated Aug. 4.

In the letter addressed to NUP Secretary General Narciso Bravo Jr., Domagoso tendered his resignation as its vice chair for political affairs as well as a party member.
