7 new COVID-19 cases in Eastern Samar had close contact with Delta variant carrier
TACLOBAN CITY — Seven of the eight new cases of COVID-19 in Eastern Samar had close contact with a patient who was earlier detected to have acquired the Delta variant.
According to Mayor Roland Boie Evardone of Arteche town, all COVID-19 cases in the municipality should now be treated as Delta variants.
The first confirmed patient of the Delta variant was a 45-year-old man who has no travel history and was not known to be in contact with any COVID-19 patient in the town.
He recovered from the COVID-19 variant last July 13.
The Department of Health is still conducting a probe on how the Delta variant entered the region.
Article continues after this advertisementAt least nine Delta variants were detected in Eastern Samar and another one in Tacloban City.
As of Thursday, August 5, the region posted 243 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the region’s total number of infections to 36,801.
