In a televised briefing, Miraflores said 147 of the province’s 184 total deaths since the pandemic started were recorded from May to July this year.

Miraflores had advised mayors of the province to prepare burial grounds after the lone crematory in Panay Island was overwhelmed and had stopped receiving cadavers.

Due to its increasing cases and deaths, Aklan is now under modified enhanced community quarantine until August 15.

Miraflores said they would request the national government to place the province under the most restrictive quarantine status if its COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
