DOJ: Inquest proceedings to be conducted online

MANILA, Philippines — State prosecutors will have to conduct inquest proceedings online after the government imposed the strictest lockdown in the National Capital Region amid the spread of the more contagious Delta variant, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court also issued a similar directive last week to judges in areas to be placed on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from Aug. 6 to 20.

Guevarra, however, said he was still awaiting a directive from the Office of the President regarding the operations of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in the coming weeks.

“If no directive is issued, I will take it to mean that all DOJ personnel will work from home during the ECQ in [Metro Manila[,” Guevarra said in a Viber message.
