Nun, 2 others killed in Batangas road accident

MANILA, Philippines – Three people, including a nun, died and two were wounded, after the vehicle they were on figured in an accident with a cargo truck early Thursday in Batangas, police said.

Sister Flordelina Fernandez Espiritu, 52, a nun at Three Kings Parish Council and Jasmine Gracia Liwag, 35, an employee of Three Kings; and a certain Emily were killed in the incident at the Star Tollway in Barangay (village) San Andres, Malvar, Batangas, said Inspector Liezel Dimaandal, Batangas police spokesperson.

Dimaandal said Espiritu and Emily died on the spot, with Emily getting stuck at the front seat of the Nissan Frontier Pick-Up (CRR 986) they were riding, Dimaandal said.

Liwag was declared dead on arrival at the Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City where the two injured, Larry Tumangan Mendoza, 47, the driver; and Maribel Sabat Gervacio, 45, also an employee of Three Kings, were brought, Dimaandal said.

She said the Nissan Frontier hit an Isuzu Tractor Head with license plate RFY 710 and with trailer plate BUE 328 driven by Vincent Lutrana Lampa, 27.

The cargo truck loaded with tons of dried corn from Pangasinan is registered under the name of Sanyos Sy Go, while the Nissan Frontier is registered under the name of church Three Kings Parish Council.

She said Emily’s body was taken to Reycon Funeral Parlor in Malvar, Batangas, while Espiritu and Liwag were still at the morgue of Mary Mediatrix Hospital.
