Free train rides for vaccinated commuters from Aug. 3 to end of ECQ – DOTr
MANILA, Philippines — Vaccinated train commuters may now avail themselves of free rides in the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2), Manila Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) and Philippine National Railways (PNR) starting on August 3 until the end of lockdown in Metro Manila, the Department of Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade said on Monday.
“Simula bukas, libre na ang pamasahe ng mga bakunadong APOR (Authorized Persons Outside of Residence), kahit nakaka-isa o dalawang dose na ang mga ito,” said Tugade in a statement.
(Starting tomorrow, train rides will now be free to vaccinated APOR regardless of the number of doses they have completed.)
According to Tugade, commuters need only to present their vaccinations cards as proof of inoculation to get a free ride.
Terminal fees for buses and jeepneys at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange have also been waived starting Monday.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Ports Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Manila International Airport Authority also promised to hand out free food and drinks to travelers who are waiting in airports and piers.
“Ang inisyatibong ito ay napagkasunduan ng buong Kagawaran ng Transportasyon upang makatulong sa pagpapanatili ng kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan, at upang matulungan ang gobyerno na mahikayat ang ating mga kababayan na magpabakuna,” said Tugade.
(This initiative has been agreed upon by the entire Department of Transportation to help maintain the health and safety of our countrymen, and to help the government encourage our countrymen to get vaccinated.)
The NCR Plus is scheduled to be placed under ECQ from August 6 to August 20 amid the rising cases of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant.
The bubble, however, is under general community quarantine “subject to heightened restrictions with additional restrictions” until August 5 before the scheduled lockdown.
