PH death toll crosses 28,000 mark after 127 deaths reported Sunday

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s COVID-19 death toll is now at 28,016 after 127 new deaths were reported, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Sunday.

The total number of deaths accounts for 1.75 percent of all cases.

The caseload is now at 1,597,689, after DOH reported 8,735 new COVID-19 cases.

Of the case total, 63,646 or 4 percent are tagged as ‘active cases’ but most of them only had mild or no symptoms at 95.3 percent.

The total number of recoveries is now at 1,506,027 or 94.3 percent of all cases after 5,930 survived the virus.

“Moreover, 9 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 75 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” DOH noted.

The latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker reported that the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of  COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 3,409,658 cases.

Indonesia also leads the tally in the region in terms of deaths at 94,119, while the Philippines is at the far second.

As of posting, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 197.8 million including 4.2 million deaths, according to the tracker.
