Laoag City and Pagudpud under ECQ as COVID-19 cases rise

MANILA, Philippines — In an effort to arrest the rising cases of COVID-19,  Ilocos Norte has placed the city of Laoag and the municipality of Pagudpud under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In Executive Order No. 145-21, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc declared Laoag City and Pagudpud under ECQ from August 1 to 15, 2021. 

The governor said the decision was reached after a meeting with the mayors.

 Now under the strictest quarantine classification, only essential travel and services will be allowed in these places during lockdown.

 A liquor ban and curfew will also be implemented from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

 Only health workers, government officials, and members of the security and safety forces are exempted from the curfew.

 

Meanwhile, in a separate order, Manotoc also placed the municipalities of Bacarra, Badoc, Burgos, and Pinili under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with “heightened restrictions”also from August 1 to 15.

 

As of July 31, Ilocos Norte has recorded a total of 8,155 cases of COVID-19, including 3,170 active cases, 4,861 recoveries and 124 deaths.

Laoag City currently has the most number of active cases with 1,018.

Metro Manila is also scheduled to be placed under ECQ from August 6 to August 20 amid the rising cases of the more-transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant.
