PH gives over 659,000 COVID-19 jabs in single day — DIzon

MANILA, Philippines — The country was able to administer more than 659,000 COVID-19 vaccines in a day, surpassing its target of 500,000 jabs daily to achieve population protection, National Task Force against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon said Wednesday.

“For the first time nalagpasan natin ang target natin na 500,000 sa isang araw,” he said in a televised public briefing.

With this new development, Dizon said the Philippines so far has administered over 18.1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, of which 11.3 million are first doses.

Dizon said more than 6.8 million Filipinos have so far completed their two doses of the vaccine.

“Team effort ito, lahat nagsama sama para maabot natin at malagpasan ang ating target,” he said.

The Philippines is seen to be among the last countries in the region to be able to vaccinate 70% of its population to achieve the so-called herd immunity, according to a UK-based think tank.
