OLONGAPO CITY––A 13-year-old girl drowned in Dinalupihan town in Bataan after she reportedly went swimming Monday in a swollen river, authorities said.

The body of Janica Jane Borbor, a resident of Barangay San Simon, was retrieved Tuesday afternoon, according to the Olongapo Fire-Search-and-Rescue Team that helped in the operation.

Initial reports said Borbor, her brother, and their friends went to San Simon River to swim. But the rising water level and a strong current swept the girl to the deeper portion of the river.

Borbor’s companions tried but failed to rescue her due to the raging current amid the intense rain caused by the southwest monsoon.
