OLONGAPO CITY––The local government on Monday administered the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccines, benefiting 1,200 residents on the priority list.

Among those who received the single-dose Janssen vaccines were older residents and those with illnesses, according to the city health office.

The United States donated the J&J vaccines and delivered them through the COVAX global vaccine pool.

A total of 3.2 million J&J vaccines were delivered to the country last week.

At least 17,000 residents had been vaccinated, with over 9,000 of them receiving two doses.

Aside from the J&J vaccines, the city has been administering Sinovac from China and AstraZeneca from the U.K.

Olongapo has to vaccinate 70 percent of its 260,000-population to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.
