MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has recorded 5,479 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 1,548,755, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Sunday.
Of the total, 54,262 or 3.5 percent are still tagged as ‘active cases,’ with many having only mild or no symptoms at 94.6 percent.
There were also 5,573 recoveries reported on Sunday to bring the total number of recoveries to 1,467,269 or 94.7 percent of all cases.
The total number of fatalities is now at 27,224 or 1.76 percent of cases after 93 patients succumbed to the disease.
“Moreover, 50 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH noted.
The latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker reported that the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 3,127,826 cases as the country saw a spike of cases due to the Delta variant.
As of posting, the COVID-19 global case count is now at 193.7 million including 4.1 million deaths, according to the tracker.
