A man who tested positive for COVID-19 was caught disguising himself as his wife to board a domestic flight in Indonesia.

The man (name withheld) boarded the plane wearing a niqab veil over his face, Indonesian authorities told Associated Press last Thursday, July 22. The plane was traveling from Jakarta to Ternate island in North Maluku province last July 18.

“He bought the plane ticket with his wife’s name and brought the identity card, the PCR test result and the vaccination card with his wife’s name,” local police were quoted as saying.

The man was able to keep his cover when the plane took off, until a flight attendant noticed that he changed into his regular clothes mid-air, as per BBC on July 23. He was detained upon landing and got tested for COVID-19.

When the test results came back positive, he was ordered to self-isolate at home. The police will continue its investigation as soon as the man’s quarantine ends. Dana Cruz/JB
