Ex-press secretary Tomas ‘Buddy’ Gomez III passes away

TACLOBAN CITY – Former press secretary Tomas “Buddy” Gomez III died while on a visit to Spain on Thursday, July 22.  He was 86.

“With deep sorrow in our hearts, we announced the passing of Tomas “Buddy” Gomez III, who left us on July 22, 2021, while doing the Camino to Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain,” said his daughter and Commission on Human Rights Commissioner Karen Gomez-Dumpit in a post on Facebook.

Gomez, who served as press secretary in the Cabinet of late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino from 1986 to 1989, was a native of Calbayog City in Samar.

Dumpit did not mention the cause of her father’s death.

Gomez also served as a consul to Hawaii from 1990 to 1992.
