MANILA, Philippines — Eighteen of the 47 confirmed COVID-19 Delta variant cases in the country are individuals unvaccinated against the new coronavirus, the Department of Health (DOH) revealed Friday.
According to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, only two of the country’s Delta variant cases have been fully vaccinated while four have received just one dose.
“Eighteen cases were confirmed to be not vaccinated,” she told an online media briefing.
The DOH said it is still verifying whether or not the remaining 23 cases have been inoculated against coronavirus.
The DOH was also unable to give information about the brand of COVID-19 vaccine administered to those who tested positive for the Delta variant.
Of the 47 total COVID-19 Delta variant cases, eight remain active, 36 were said to have already recovered, and three have died.
Twenty-four of them are returning overseas Filipinos (ROF) while 23 are local cases, according to the DOH.
Vergeire said that 32 (76 percent) of the 47 COVID-19 Delta variant cases are males while 15 are females. Their ages range from 14 to 79, she also said.
The DOH confirmed on Thursday night the local transmission of the highly contagious Delta variant, saying that “clusters were seen to be linked to other local cases, therefore, exhibiting local transmission.”
