MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized counterfeit and used clothing worth around P2.3 billion from a warehouse in Mayzan, Valenzuela City.
Seized were counterfeit items with of popular and luxury clothing and apparel brands along with bales of used clothing, face masks and other imported items, the BOC said in a statement Friday.
A letter of authority was issued by BOC Commissioner Rey Guerrero to launch the inspection on the warehouse.
Meanwhile, a Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued by Manila International Container Port (MICP) District Collector Romeo Rosales for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
Rosales warned that the trade of used clothing may have negative effects on the user’s health as well as to the local clothing industries.
He also assured that the MICP “remains committed in curbing the trade of prohibited goods” as the “the trade begins to pick-up and recover in the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Faith Yuen Wei Ragasa, Inquirer trainee
