DOH: 6,560 new cases of COVID-19 boost active cases to 47,996

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported an increase of 6,560 in the country’s total COVID-19 infections.
In its latest tally, DOH said that the total COVID-19 caseload is now at 1,524,449 including the 47,996. active cases.
The DOH also reported the recovery of 5,364 patients, bringing the sum of recoveries to 1,449,579.
The 6,560 new cases represent 12.1 percent of the 36,168 people who underwent tests for the coronavirus last Monday, according to the DOH. The health agency generally releases new daily counts based on test results it received from laboratories the day before.
Meanwhile, the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 rose anew with the death of 32 patients. The nationwide death toll is not at 26,874, the DOH said.
The DOH then reported it discovered and subsequently removed 14 duplicates from its case tally, which included eight cases that were registered as recoveries and two death cases.
Further, the DOH said 30 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The health agency said all laboratories were operational on Monday, but four labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
It added that the four non-reporting laboratories contribute 1.1 percent of samples tested and 1.5 percent of positive individuals, on average.
As of writing, the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker showed that global COVID-19 cases are currently at 191,469,012, including 4,118,633 deaths.
