GAPAN CITY—A suspected drug trader was killed after allegedly engaging policemen in a shootout during a buy-bust operation here Monday (July 19) evening.

Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito, acting city police chief, identified the suspect as Manny Ramos, a resident of Barangay Pambuan in this city.

Desamito said operatives from the Gapan drug enforcement unit conducted the buy-bust operation in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency upon confirming Ramos’ illicit activity.

The undercover agent bought a sachet of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) from Ramos using a marked P1,000 bill, according to Desamito.

But the suspect reportedly fired a .38-caliber revolver when operatives led by Lt. Francis Capili tried to arrest him, prompting the lawmen to retaliate and fatally shoot Ramos.

The police recovered Ramos’ gun and 21 sachets of shabu.
