MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will issue a memorandum instructing local government units to prepared for the possible influx of the more contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

“In the coming days, the DILG will issue a memorandum to remind our local government units to prepare as soon as possible strategies on the possible local transmission of the COVID delta variant,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said, speaking partly in Filipino, during the taped weekly briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to Año, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the LGUs would be stricter in enforcing the community protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Border controls will also be further tightened, especially at international airports and seaports, he added.

Local chief executives will also intensify the vaccination of their constituents and subject COVID-19 patients to the PDITR process —prevent, detect, isolate, treat, and recover.

Furthermore, Año said that the government would also add more quarantine and healthcare facilities.

He then reminded everyone to strictly follow the minimum health care guidelines against COVID-19 and to get vaccinated as soon as possible

“This is the best resistance to COVID, especially the COVID Delta variant.)

As of this writing, the country has so far confirmed a total of 36 cases of the Delta variant, this includes the 16 new ones announced by the DOH last Friday.
