MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig on Monday clarified that the Delta variant case, which its COVID-19 task force earlier reported, did not set foot in the city until he was fully recovered in an isolation facility outside the city.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Taguig local government unit said the Delta variant case was detected from a returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) as early as May and was an isolated case.
The said OFW underwent the required quarantine period upon his arrival in the country and was only released after he fully recovered. This means that the patient was never able to set foot in Taguig when he was still infected with the virus.
The city said that so far none of those who have been genome sampled by the city’s COVID-19 task force was found to have the Delta variant.
“We continue to remain vigilant and implement the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate strategy against all COVID-19 variants to ensure the continued protection of Taguigeños,” said City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance head Dr. Jun Sy.
The Department of Health (DOH) also on Monday clarified that the COVID-19 Delta variant case in Taguig City was not a local case.

The country has so far confirmed a total of 35 cases of the Delta variant, this includes the 16 new ones announced by the DOH on Friday.
As of July 19, Taguig City has a total of 29,811 cases of COVID-19, with 449 active cases, 29,081 recoveries and 281 deaths.
