3 alleged NPA members in Eastern Samar surrender to cops

Eastern SamarTACLOBAN CITY––Three alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members will receive financial aid and other benefits from the government after they surrendered to police authorities in Eastern Samar last week.

“Banay” and his common-law wife “Menggay,” and “Semar” yielded to Lt. Col. Joy Leanza, commander of the 1st Eastern Samar Police Mobile Force Company (ESPMFC) based in Dolores town.

Banay and Menggay surrendered on July 16, while Semar surrendered the next day.

A statement from the 1st ESPMFC said Banay was a team leader of the front guerilla unit of the sub-regional committee headed by Carlito Badulid.

Menggay was a member of a women’s association under the barangay organizing party, while Semar was a member of the Militia ng Bayan.

The couple decided to give up their armed struggle to have a normal family life with their children.

The three surrenderers, residents of Dolores, will be provided financial assistance by the government under its Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program to start a new life.

Dolores Mayor Shonny Niño Carpeso vowed to help the three former rebels, so they could avail themselves of the benefits offered by the government.
