CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela — A resident here has contracted the more virulent Delta variant of the COVID-19, Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy said on Monday.

The Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2, was first identified in India and is now considered the most dominant variant affecting many parts of the world, including the United States, Great Britain, and most Southeast Asian countries.

“What is good here is the patient had recovered from the disease and did not infect any close contacts,” Dy said. He did not provide other details.

The city’s active COVID-19 cases have reached 54 as of Sunday, with eight new cases, one death and one recovery. — Villamor Visaya Jr.
