MANILA, Philippines — A case of the COVID-19 Delta variant has been detected in Taguig City, an official leading its pandemic efforts said.

Taguig Safe City Task Force head Clarence Santos said one of the city’s 73 detected variants was found to be the Delta variant, citing a report from its City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit.

It was not immediately clear if the Delta variant case in Taguig City was among the new cases announced by the Department of Health (DOH) last Friday.

The DOH has said 16 new Delta variant cases, including 11 “local cases,” were detected.

Of the local cases, six were detected from Northern Mindanao, two cases were detected in Metro Manila, one case has an address in Central Luzon but tested in Metro Manila, and two more cases from Western Visayas.
