FDA warns against consumption of BongBong’s brand special piaya

MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public not to purchase and eat BongBong’s Special Piaya and other food products not registered with the agency.
In FDA Advisory No. 2021-1589 dated June 28 but only posted on Facebook on July 15, the regulator said that aside from BongBong’s Special Piaya, the following products are also “unregistered” with the FDA.
– BongBong’s Polvoron small
– Sloan’s Food Products Barquillos Short
– Mayo Bay Tablea
– Ruffa’s Banana Chips

“The FDA verified through online monitoring or post-marketing surveillance that the above-mentioned food products are not registered and no corresponding Certificates of Product Registration (CPR) have been issued,” the advisory read.
The FDA warned that pursuant to Republic Act No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, and advertising or sponsorship of health products without proper authorization are prohibited.
“Since these unregistered food products have not gone through the evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure its quality and safety,” the advisory added.
The FDA warned all concerned establishments to not distribute, advertise, or sell the said “violative” food products until a CPR was issued. “Otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued,” said the agency.
