BFAR: Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga remain safe from red tide
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The coastal waters of the provinces of Zambales, Bataan and Pampanga remained free of the toxic red tide, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said on Thursday (July 16).
In its latest shellfish bulletin, the BFAR said it is still safe to eat all kinds of shellfish and alamang (shrimp fry) in these areas as long as these are fresh and cleaned thoroughly.
BFAR has been constantly gathering samples from these areas to determine the presence of toxic microorganisms that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning.
In Zambales, Masinloc Bay is one of the areas that BFAR regularly monitors for the presence of the harmful red tide toxins.
In Bataan, nine areas were cleared of red tide. These include Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay and Samal
