MANILA, Philippines — The PDP-Laban national council has authorized the replacement of the current party headquarters with a “new” one ahead of the 2022 elections.

During the national council meeting on Friday, PDP-Laban vice president for external affairs Raul Lambino made a motion for the party to “constitute a new PDP-Laban national headquarters in preparation for the 2022 national and local elections.”

“I strongly move that we replace the current PDP-Laban headquarters and authorize the secretary-general to find a new PDP-Laban headquarters,” he added. Lawyer Melvin Matibag is the party’s acting secretary-general.

Lambino further moved to authorize the secretary-general to establish an office that will “serve as the party secretariat and communications center,” as allowed by Section 1, Article 17 of the party’s constitution.

The motion was approved after no one raised any objection.

Friday’s national council meeting was led by party vice-chairman Alfonso Cusi in light of infighting within the current ruling political party.

On Saturday, the Cusi-led group will conduct a national assembly where an election of party officers will take place.

But the group of Senator Manny Pacquiao, who has been in conflict with Cusi’s faction, has deemed the July 17 assembly as “unauthorized.” Pacquiao serves as president of PDP-Laban.

Pacquiao, together with the party’s National Executive Committee, expelled Cusi and two others last week.

However, the national council reversed this by approving a motion to nullify the resolution during Friday’s meeting.
