Pagasa monitoring 2 LPAs; isolated rain showers due nationwide

DOST-Pagasa weather update, July 16, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Isolated rain showers are expected over Luzon and parts of Visayas and Mindanao due to southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Friday.

Meanwhile, the state bureau is monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs)—one of which entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Thursday night.

Scattered rains, cloudy skies

The state weather bureau said the provinces of Zambales and Bataan as well as the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region will experience cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to southwest monsoon.

The rest of Luzon will also experience slightly cloudy to cloudy weather with chances of rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa reported.

Isolated rain showers are also expected over the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao due to southwest monsoon, Pagasa added.

2 LPAs

As of 3 a.m., the LPA that entered the PAR was located 240 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.

It has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and may gradually enhance southwest monsoon in the coming days, but is not expected to make a landfall, said Pagasa.

The other LPA, which is outside PAR, was located 240 kilometers northwest of Laoag City and has a low chance of intensifying.

Pagasa said both LPAs have no direct impact on the country, so far.
