Duterte declares July 20 as holiday for Eid’l Adha

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 20, 2021 as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by the authority of the President, signed Proclamation 1189, released on Thursday.

“The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that 20 July 2021 be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha,” the proclamation read.

“The observance of Eid’l Adha shall be subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures,” it added.

Eid al-Adha is one of the two most important holidays in the Muslim calendar.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son at the command of Allah. Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, cows and camels to commemorate this.
