MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Quezon City have breached the 1 million mark, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced Wednesday.

Belmonte said the number was reached Tuesday night with the city’s sustained administration of vaccine second doses.

“I am very happy to announce, and this is the first time I am announcing this too, that the Quezon City Government has already reached one million, that was as of last night,” said Belmonte over CNN Philippines when asked about the latest on the LGU’s vaccination of first and second doses.

“This is because of the second doses we have been administering,” she added.

Belmonte said the city aims to vaccinate 1.7 million, or 80 percent of its adult population.

“At the moment, we have vaccinated about 40 percent on a first dose, and about 20 percent on a second dose here in Quezon City,” she said.

She also said the local government aims to give 50,000 vaccines their second doses on Wednesday.

As of Monday, a total of 13,196,282 vaccine doses were administered nationwide, including 9,669,940 for the first dose, and 3,526,342 for the second dose, according to the latest available data.
