LAOAG CITY—A total of 93,546 residents in Ilocos region have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, records from the Department of Health on Monday showed.

The same data showed that at least 280,852 residents in the region had received the first dose of the vaccine.

A total of 374,398 doses had been administered in the region since the DOH started its vaccination drive in March.

An additional 10,000 doses of the CoronaVac made by Chinese pharmaceutical firm Sinovac were allocated to the region on July 9 to continue inoculating the A1, A2, and A3 priority groups.

The DOH targeted to inoculate 763,355 residents in the region belonging to the top three priority groups that include 87,409 health workers, 547,788 senior citizens, and 128,158 persons with ailments.

Around 73 percent of the target medical frontliners had been fully vaccinated, while 4 percent of the senior citizens and 1.63 percent of those with ailments had received two vaccine doses.

The DOH said the vaccine allocations were based on the local governments’ capability to move them within six days upon receipt and their current vaccine coverage and utilization rate.

Other factors were the number of COVID-19 cases in the provinces and the availability of the vaccines at the regional storage facility, according to the DOH.
