PH’s COVID-19 death toll nears 26,000 mark with 105 new fatalities — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 105 new COVID-19 deaths Sunday, bringing the country’s death toll to 25,921.

The total number of deaths is 1.76 percent of all cases, according to the DOH.

The DOH also reported 5,916 new COVID-19 cases to bring the country’s caseload to 1,473,025.

Of the total, 49,701 or 3.4 percent were tagged as “active cases,” with patients having mild or no symptoms at 94.4 percent.

There are also 6,127 reported recoveries to bring the number of COVID-19 recoveries to 1,397,403 or 94.9 percent of all cases.

“Moreover, 53 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is only behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 2,491,006 cases, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

The country is also second in terms of fatalities, also behind Indonesia with 65,457 deaths.

As of posting, the global cases reached 186.4 million including 4 million deaths, according to the tracker.
