COA flags AFP for low use of COVID-19 funds

/ 05:10 AM July 11, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines utilized less than 40 percent of its P357.87 million in funds to support its operational requirements against the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.

In an audit report on the AFP general headquarters, the Commission on Audit (COA) said only P133.15 million or 37 percent of the COVID-19 funds were spent.

This left P224.72 million or 63 percent unused, including an unobligated balance of P92.34 million.

The COA noted, however, that the Presidential Security Group’s P11.631-million purchase of testing kits, medicine and equipment was without supporting documents. The COA added that the audit team was not notified within 24 hours after delivery of the procured items, contrary to a 2009 COA circular, which requires it.
