A man who was jailed for theft allegedly tried to pay his bail with counterfeit money in Maine, USA.

Michael Deschesne was arrested last week after an officer who was only questioning him about an unrelated theft case found out there was an outstanding warrant against him, as per Bangor Daily News on June 29.

When he was taken to the York County Jail, Deschesne claimed he had money to pay his bail, the sheriff’s office was cited as stating.

The bail commissioner was then contacted and when Deschesne tried to pay him his bail, he reportedly presented two fake $100 bills.

He was then returned to jail and was slapped with an additional forgery charge, according to the report.

Later that day, however, Deschesne was able to post bail with authentic money. He is now set to appear in court on Aug. 4. Ian Biong /ra
