MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to 55,482 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,192 more infections on Friday.
The DOH has so far confirmed a total of 1,424,518 cases of COVID-19 cases in the country since the first case reported in January last year.
The majority, or 1,344,063, have already recovered, including the 2,212 new recoveries logged by the DOH.
However, 177 more patients have died, taking the death count to 24,973.
The DOH said 11.4 percent of 51,536 people who were tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease was found positive on Wednesday.
According to the health department, all labs were operational on Wednesday but four labs were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the four non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.05 percent of samples tested and 0.25 percent of positive individuals.
Eleven duplicate entries, including eight recoveries and one death, were removed from the total case count.
The DOH said 12 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 102 cases that were earlier counted as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
