MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared June 19 of every year as “Filipino Social Workers’ Day” to recognize their “indispensable role “ and “contribution to nation-building.”
“There is a need to raise awareness of the unwavering commitment, dedication, and altruism of Filipino social workers, and their significant role in the reduction of various socioeconomic vulnerabilities of individuals, families, and communities in the country,” reads Proclamation No. 1176 signed by Duterte on June 25. A copy of the proclamation was only made public on Thursday.
Duterte directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to lead the observance of the Filipino Social Workers’ Day.
The President also encouraged other government agencies and local government units to participate and support the initiative.
