5,795 new COVID-19 cases in PH push active tally to 51,567
MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases in the country are now at 51,567 as the Department of Health (DOH) logged 5,795 additional coronavirus cases.
The DOH also recorded 2,859 additional recoveries, bringing the number of patients who have recovered to 1,341,973. Meanwhile, 135 more people have died, raising the death toll to 24,797.
According to DOH, 11.9 percent of the 47,980 people who were tested were found positive for the virus on Tuesday.
All laboratories were operational on Tuesday but five laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.4 percent of samples tested and 2.3 percent of positive individuals.
Article continues after this advertisementThe DOH said 17 duplicate entries, including 14 recoveries, were removed from the total case count.
Article continues after this advertisementTwenty-seven cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 93 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The country is already at low-risk classification for COVID-19 case trend, but the number of cases is still higher than last year’s peak in July and August, according to the DOH Epidemiology Bureau.
