A man from Keonjhar, India walked out on his bride on their wedding day after her family failed to prepare mutton curry for the ceremony’s reception.
Ramakant Patra, 27, traveled with his family and other members of his wedding party to Bandhagaon village in the town of Sukinda to get married on June 23, as per New Indian Express on Friday, June 25.
Patra was welcomed by members of the bride’s family and he participated in necessary rituals before he was led to the dining hall, where members of his wedding party demanded to have mutton curry.
Since the bride’s family did not make preparations to cook curry for the wedding feast, an argument erupted between the two families and it reportedly “blew out of proportion.”
After learning that his family’s request was not fulfilled, Patra called off the wedding. He and his kin left the venue and spent the rest of the day at a relative’s house in Kuhika village. This was despite the bride’s family pleading for him to change his mind.
Patra later married another woman in the nearby village of Phulajhara on the same day before returning to his home. There were no police complaints filed regarding the matter, as of this writing.
Incidentally, a woman in Uttar Pradesh, India canceled her own wedding last month, after the groom failed a quick math test. Another bride, meanwhile, married a wedding guest when the groom fled the ceremony, also last month. Dana Cruz/JB
