MANILA, Philippines — Two policemen died while another was hurt following an amok that turned into a shootout at the headquarters of the Manila Police District (MPD) late Friday night.
According to the MPD, Police Executive Master Sgt. Reynante Dipasupil, who was allegedly drunk, appeared at the headquarters and ran amok, indiscriminately firing his gun.
Dipasupil hit Police Staff Sgt. Reynaldo Cordova, prompting the drunk officer to flee towards the headquarters ‘ Gate 4.
Dipasupil’s attempt to flee triggered a shootout when he met Police Master Sgt. Romeo O. Cantal and Police Staff Sgt. Ferdinand Francia.
Dipasupil and Cantal sustained gunshot wounds during the shootout. The two officers later died while being treated at a hospital.
MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco has ordered a thorough investigation of the incident. He also ordered that security measures at the MPD headquarters be upgraded to full alert status.
